Nuggets of Life Cohort 2 Graduation

After yet another impactful year of mentorship, Nuggets of Life proudly celebrated the graduation of our second cohort of mentees, seven inspiring young leaders. The ceremony was graced by guardians, alumni, mentors, invited guests, and the Nuggets of Life secretariat, all coming together to honor a journey of growth, resilience, and transformation.

This year’s graduates: Mary Thairu, Naomi Mungai, Eva Maina, George Gaitho, Peter Ongeri, Pamela Kageni, and Isaac Kuria, successfully completed a one-year journey of mentorship, skill-building, and personal growth, stepping confidently into their next chapter as leaders. Each of them entered the program with unique aspirations, challenges, and dreams, and through consistent guidance and reflection, they left as more self-aware and empowered individuals ready to influence the spaces they step into

The graduation event

As tradition dictates, the event began with a reflection and word of gratitude from one of our mentors, Sr. Dr. Pauline, whose words were both grounding and inspiring. She reminded the congregation that Nuggets of Life has not only been a hub for mentorship but also a seedbed for shaping the kind of leaders the world truly needs, leaders who are not only competent but also grounded in values of service, responsibility, and empathy. Her heartfelt message set the tone for the celebration, encouraging everyone present to reflect on the impact of mentorship and the role it plays in shaping future generations.

As more guests streamed in, there was a sense of quiet pride and anticipation in the room. This was not just a graduation, it was a moment of transition. The mentees were no longer simply learners in the program; they were now part of the larger Nuggets of Life family, ready to take their place as alumni and to mentor others in time.

To mark this important milestone, the event featured a keynote address by Jeffery Ferrezy, CEO of Africa Transition Hub and a respected voice in preparing young people for the realities of the marketplace. Having previously spoken to the cohort in a virtual forum, his presence at the graduation was both familiar and deeply impactful. Jeffery shared openly about his own leadership journey, one marked by resilience, adaptability, and courage.

Though he had been a student leader throughout his academic years, Jeffery recounted how he faced an unexpected challenge when he was fired just three months into his very first job. What could have been a crushing and traumatizing experience instead became the turning point that shaped his path. Rather than seeking another position, he chose to embrace the uncertainty, carving out his own space as a leader and eventually building a firm that supports fresh graduates.

Today, he not only prepares young people for the workforce but also goes a step further by linking them to internships and opportunities within his vast network. His story of failure turned into purpose left a lasting impression on the graduates, reminding them that leadership often emerges through resilience. As a token of encouragement, Jeffery gifted them signed copies of his book, Master the Marketplace, which further emphasizes the importance of readiness and adaptability.

As the celebration drew toward its close, Rosemary Mburu, our founder and executive director, shared her reflections and warm congratulations with the outgoing cohort. She spoke not only as a mentor but also as a fellow learner, acknowledging that the journey had been deeply enriching for her as well.

“It is like watching yourself in a mirror, but the mirror is somebody else,” Rosemary reflected.

Her words captured the essence of mentorship, a process where both the mentor and the mentee are shaped and strengthened through their interactions. Other mentors present at the ceremony echoed this sentiment, recognizing the mutual growth that had taken place over the course of the year.

The graduation concluded with a powerful and symbolic moment: a public affirmation ceremony. Each graduate stood before the gathering to boldly declare their aspirations for the next three years, both as leaders and as individuals. From personal goals to community impact, these affirmations were a testimony to their growth and a promise of the bright futures that lie ahead.

This graduation reminded us all that mentorship is more than a program, it is a transformative journey that empowers individuals to step into their calling with confidence. As our graduates leave the comfort of the mentorship circle and step into new spaces, they carry with them the lessons, values, and networks they have built through Nuggets of Life.

We are confident that these seven young leaders will make meaningful contributions wherever they go, serving as mirrors of the values they have embraced and shining as examples for those who will come after them. Their journeys have just begun, and as an organization, we stand proud and hopeful, knowing that the seeds planted today will bear fruit for years to come.
