5 Tips on Building a Strong Mentorship Relationship
How great mentor-mentee pairs actually work.
Mentorship isn't magic. It's mostly small habits, repeated.
1. Show up prepared
Don't waste your mentor's hour catching them up on what an email could've covered.
2. Ask better questions
'What should I do?' is a closed door. 'Here's how I'm thinking about it — what am I missing?' is a window.
3. Take the advice and report back
Nothing kills a mentorship faster than guidance ignored. Try the thing. Tell them what happened.
4. Be honest about what's hard
Your mentor can't help you with the polished version of the problem.
5. Pay it forward
The day someone asks you for advice, you'll know mentorship has come full circle.
